Who is Terry Fox, and what is Terry Fox Run?
Terrance Stanley "Terry" Fox CC OD, (July 28, 1958 – June 28, 1981) was a Canadian humanitarian, athlete, and cancer research activist. In 1980, with one leg having been amputated, he embarked on a cross-Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Although the spread of his cancer eventually forced him to end his quest after 143 days and 5,373 kilometres (3,339 mi), and ultimately cost him his life, his efforts resulted in a lasting, worldwide legacy. The annual Terry Fox Run, first held in 1981, has grown to involve millions of participants in over 60 countries and is now the world's largest one-day fundraiser for cancer research; over C$500 million has been raised in his name.
One of Fox's earliest supporters was Isadore Sharp, founder of the Four Seasons Hotels. Sharp had lost his own son to cancer and offered Fox and his companions free accommodation at his hotels.[2]He donated $10,000 and challenged 999 other businesses to do the same.[87] Sharp also proposed an annual fundraising run in Fox's name. Fox agreed, but insisted that the runs be non-competitive. There were to be no winners or losers, and anyone who participated could run, walk or ride.[88] Sharp faced opposition to the project. The Cancer Society feared that a fall run would detract from its traditional April campaigns, while other charities believed that an additional fundraiser would leave less money for their causes.[89] Sharp persisted, and he, the Four Seasons Hotels and the Fox family organized the first Terry Fox Run on September 13, 1981.[88]
Over 300,000 people took part and raised $3.5 million in the first Terry Fox Run.[87] Schools across Canada were urged to join the second run, held on September 19, 1982.[90] School participation has continued since, evolving into the National School Run Day.[91] The runs, which raised over $20 million in its first six years,[89] grew into an international event as over one million people in 60 countries took part in 1999, raising $15 million that year alone.[92] By the Terry Fox Run's 25th anniversary, more than three million people were taking part annually. Grants from the Terry Fox Foundation, which organizes the runs, have helped Canadian scientists make numerous advances in cancer research.[93] The Terry Fox Run is the world's largest one-day fundraiser for cancer research,[94] and over $500 million has been raised in his name.[95] The 30th Terry Fox Run was held September 19, 2010.[96]-wikipediaRun and donation
The donation done through tshirt sales. Those who wish to donate can buy the tshirts. For the run, it shows the support towards the campaign. Not only running, participants allowed to walk, ride, or wheel with the tagline, inspired by dream, grounded in tradition, volunteer-driven. Its a noncompetitive run, that is suitable for the whole families (I saw walking/running parents with their baby in stroller + walking little ones on tow. Unfortunately I ddint see many amputees/wheelchairs on that day)

Me @ Terry Fox Run 2010
I never like running. I never thought of joining all these runs. But after one my lecturer enthusiastically promotes Terry Fox Run, and coincidently, my sister also thought of going, I immediately decided to join. However some misunderstanding almost caused me to cancel my intention. But with the support of my buddies, on 7th November 2010, four of us ran along many others to support the Terry Fox run Bunch of thanks to Sa,Aini,Wani & 5,BIL). The significance? It felt good knowing you did the right thing for good cause. Its like- come, run, be all sweaty and tell the world Malaysians support Terry Fox Run and cancer research.

On That Day (071110)
We arrived little later after 8.30 and saw so many people in blue Terry Fox shirts. The meeting field look so blue. There are few stalls, serving foods and drinks to runners (mineral water, muffins from Hilton, Milo, breads from Hi5. Free foods peeps!) and Tshirt stall for those who still didnt get their tshirt. I saw many strollers and wheelers too (longboarders, rollerbladers etc etc). After some time, the warming up from Celebrity Fitness started. Then, the run began with wheelers first. There are so many people, and we all came to support the good cause, not to run and win. So, after the run started, the runners became like a procession along the trail. haha. After some time and some space, some of us started to run. Out of all people, me, ME! ran 2 times around Tasik Titiwangsa, grossly around 4km+. Okay I didn't run all the time. But I think I run more than I ran for the whole previous month! I wish to join again next year, hopefully with P&O team and I wish to wheel next year. *start saving for a new pair of rollerblades ^^
*hoorah.saya dah lari sebanyak 4km/2km hari ni!
Me & Terry Fox Run (the current me)
So, why my lecturer wish us to join this run? Terry Fox was an amputee caused by osteosarcoma. Not only he won in his battle with grief after loosing his leg and diagnosed with cancer, he even run 5,373 kilometres to raise the awareness of cancer and raised fund for cancer research.
Well, mom once said that, I will be working with amputees and amputees only in the future. Amputees like Terry Fox. I hope all amputees can adopt Terry Fox's spirit in living life.
BTW, how to go to Tasik Titiwangsa?
Since I went to the venue myself by public transport, I might as well share how-to (because I love to google, "how to go to xxxx by public transport"). Well, get to KL Sentral, and take LRT (Kelana Jaya line) or MONORAIL to Titiwangsa station (RM2 if taking monorail, and RM1.20 by LRT if not mistaken). Then take taxi to Taman Tasik Titiwangsa, should cost you around RM5.
*ganti balik lemak2 terbakar dek larian
*The run remind me to this MV. haha You got me running running running around.Round round round!
