Out of 14 states in Malaysia, I never been in 5states ; Johore, Sabah, Sarawak, Negeri Sembilan and Malacca. Oh, now I can cross out one of them; Malacca !!
So, here comes the story.
Without any prior planning, I tagged along Kakak and BIL having their weekend short-trip in Malacca. Journey from Bangi to Malacca took about one hour (since BIL maintained 100+ kph throughout the journey)
Our first stop ; Umbai ; a place famous for it's Ikan Bakar
" For eating options outside Malacca City, many head to two popular seafood eating areas, namely Umbai and Pengkalan Balak. These places only come alive in the evening.Umbai is located about 11 km south of Malacca City on the coastal road to Muar and Johor. If coming from Malacca City, turn right when you see the signboard "Jeti Pulau Besar Pernu" just before Umbai town. A row of stalls selling seafood cooked Malay-style located at the end of the road. - Wikipedia"
*eleh, sedap tak sedap, licin juga kami makan. Siakap bakar, kerang rebus, Buttered Prawn dan sotong celup tepung = RM60+
However, the seafoods we had that evening didn't stand up to Umbai's famous reputation for "place for seafoods". It wasn't heavenly good. It just so-so good. But, my words probably didn't do Umbai justice for maybe other restaurants serve better seafoods and it was us who were unlucky that we ate at the wrong place. he he. After all Umbai famous for its food, right?
After that, BIL took us to the famous Jonker Street ( just because I never been there sob)
Jonker Street is the definition of Night Market. There are so many stalls, hawkers along the road with so many people. The road was sort of congested. Haha. Everyone was looking around, buying something, eating cendol, taking pictures and watching free performances. If you are going to Jonker Street, be ready to be all-sweaty, claustrophobic, bumping into everyone, stepping on people's foot or be stepped on. Don't forget to follow right behind your friends/family so that you won't lost.
*Nyne, Five @ Jonker Street. Yeah, saya sudah menjejak Melaka! |
"Also known as Jalan Hang Jebat, this used to be the rich man's street during the Dutch colonial period. Today, the street is popular with antique hunters and collectors worldwide. Some of the shops have a collection of antiques which date back as far as 300 years. Strolling along the street, you will notice that the buildings are immaculately constructed with elaborate carvings on the pillars and walls. These intricate adornments reflect the rich heritage of the Peranakan or Straits Chinese community. - Wcitites, Y!Travel"

Nontheless, Jonker Street is a fun place to visit. Its so colorful with people. The buildings around are beautiful, historical; interesting! With so many people, the night life seems so colourful. The sweet smell of local delicacies in the air, music blasting from speakers and the colourful lamps from stalls really made the place hyped and fun.

*Shopping @ Jonker Street |
Among the famous items sold at Jonker Streets are souvenirs from Malacca like steel handwork in many shapes ( just like below), clog miniature, magnet fridges in Kebaya/wooden clog shapes, fortune chopstick and many other. I also remember seeing delicacies like Mochi, Malacca-origin drink like 9o etc etc.

After 6 hours or so, I was back in Bangi. That's my Malacca trip story, the beautiful, historical, and colourful Malacca ;)
